Who are the Assamese Muslims?

Among the Assamese community, there are also Assamese Muslims. These people speak Assamese like other Assamese speak.

Now, in Assam theoretically the Muslims fall into the following categories.

Deshi, Goria, Moria and Syeds

But in practical only two categories are prevailing - Syeds and the Mohammaden or Sheiks or Rayats. Syeds are the Muslims Khalifa people whose ancestors came to Assam during 12th century for the purpose of religious preachings. The Majar of Giasuddin Aulia is in Hajo and he was a Khalifa. 

The Bangladeshi immigrant issue  

Most of the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants are Muslims. We are not sure of the exact number of the Hindu immigrants. Most of the the times, confusion arises between identifying an Assamese Muslim and a Bangladeshi Muslim.
